Interview: The End of the Sun’s Jakub Machowski

on May 12, 2020

A Slavic fantasy game blending time-control mechanics and the peasant experience, The End of the Sun spans seasons and lives, telling the stories of characters at different critical moments as the protagonist chases an elusive foe. I chatted with Jakub Machowski on the nature of his work, which has been especially  busy of late, given the current Kickstarter campaign.

Interview: Sword of the Necromancer’s Victor Pedreno

on April 28, 2020

Having wildly blown past its target goal on Kickstarter, Barcelona-based Grimorio of Games‘ Sword of the Necromancer (produced and published by JanduSoft), stands out as a beautiful pixel-art ARPG with rogue-like elements, a game chasing forbidden knowledge as Tama seeks to resurrect the priestess Koko with the dark arts. With the days ticking down on the crowdfunding effort, I chatted with dev Victor Pedreno on the finer points of his work.

The brainchild of German devs Richard and Guenther Beyer, the game takes players into the deep unknown, and I leapt at the chance to interview the dev team on its process and game design philosophy.

Interview: Beautiful Desolation Dev Team

on March 10, 2020

Since February 26, I’ve been playing Beautiful Desolation and loving it. A point-and-click adventure game launching gamers into a bizarre yet wondrous South African future, its universe breathes on its own, a world with secrets to share and marvels to behold. Bearing in mind the visual aesthetic that draws comparisons to classic isometric titles (Fallout, Torment: Tides of Numenera), coupled with play reminiscent of (dare I say) Sanitarium, I chatted with devs Nic and Chris Bischoff, co-founders of The Brotherhood.
